What is Coordinated Entry?
Coordinated Entry (CE) in the River Valleys CoC Region is a HUD-mandated, evidence-based system designed to ensure that everyone experiencing a housing crisis has fair and equitable access to housing that becomes available in the homeless response system.

- Prioritize help for people who most need the available housing and services, no matter what barriers they may encounter.
How Coordinated Entry works
Coordinated Entry works for the homeless response system much like a medical triage system works in healthcare.
Housing types people can access through CE are:
Crisis housing like emergency shelters are not prioritized, but they may be access points to Coordinated Entry and other housing.
- Assistance to prevent emergency needs
- Common entry points available in each community
- Standardized intake or assessment for needs
- Assistance provided based on assessed priority (urgency)
- Referrals to providers in the network for housing and services
Housing types people can access through CE are:
- Permanent supportive housing
- Rapid Re-Housing
- Transitional Housing
- Other permanent housing services designated for people experiencing homelessness
Crisis housing like emergency shelters are not prioritized, but they may be access points to Coordinated Entry and other housing.
